For over twenty years, I taught as a Senior Lecturer at The University of the Arts, London. Since taking early retirement and moving to Shropshire, I have enjoyed exploring all printmaking techniques, but I especially love the challenge of reduction linocuts.
As an avid collector of vintage items, I find my drawings of these items often crop up in my artwork. Also important to me are architectural structures and details and for these I usually work from my own photographs.
I often use my skills in the production of Artists’ Books, which I find challenging and great fun! One of my altered Artist’s Books is on permanent display in the Special Collections room. Bower Ashton Library, Bristol University.
I occasionally give talks on Surface Pattern to interested groups, and frequently contribute to articles and books.
To date, I have written four books on Surface Pattern Design
‘1000 Patterns’ published by A & C Black 2003,
‘Patterns – New Surface Design’ published by Laurence King 2007, reprinted in mini book form 2012
‘Textiles Now’ published by Laurence King 2008
‘The Pattern Sourcebook – A century of surface design’ published by Laurence King 2009
I am Secretary of the Castle Artists, based in Bishops Castle; and a member of the Art Café South Shropshire, the Printmakers at the Rodd, Presteigne, the Inside Out Group, Oswestry and the Regional Print Centre, Wrexham and regularly exhibit with them. I also show artwork at various UK galleries and via Open Studios, H.Art and Powys Art events.
