Many Campbell

Wedi fy magu yn Coventry, roeddwn yn gyffrous iawn ynghylch ailadeiladu’r ddinas wedi’r rhyfel, ac es i Lerpwl ym 1962 i astudio pensaernïaeth ac wedyn cynllunio trefol. Yn dilyn seibiant gyrfaol i fagu fy nheulu, dilynais gwrs TAR yng Ngholeg Addysg Bellach Edgehill a bûm yn dysgu plant iau am ddeuddeg mlynedd. Cwrs a fynychais ar gyflwyno Celf yn y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol oedd yr ysbrydoliaeth i mi astudio celf, yn gyntaf ar Gwrs Sylfaen mwn Celf yng Ngholeg Southport ac yna elfen gelf cwrs BA Cyfun gydag Anrhydedd yn Edgehill. Cefais y fraint o gael fy nysgu gan Tom Titherington a Peter Oakley tra oeddwn yno, a nhw gyflwynodd colagraffi ac argraffu gludedd i mi.

Ers hynny, rwyf wedi gweithio o adref, fel argraffydd yn bennaf. Daw fy syniadau gan fy nheulu agosaf a chan bobl a lleoedd rwyf wedi dod ar eu traws wrth deithio. Un o brif ffynonellau fy nelweddau yw llyfrau brasluniau a lenwyd dros y blynyddoedd, a cholagraff ac argraffu gludedd yw fy hoff ddulliau mynegiant. Daw rhywfaint o’m gwaith o bellteroedd byd ers y cyfnod y bûm yn byw yn Sarajevo pan oedd fy ngŵr yn gweithio yn wedi Rhyfel Bosnia, ond rwy’n arddangos yn bennaf mewn orielau yng ngogledd Lloegr ac yn rheolaidd yn Academi Celfyddyd Gain Manceinion, yn enwedig ers i mi ddod yn aelod yn 2004.

Summer Workshop Programme 2014

Viscosity/Collagraph with Mary Campbell

10th-11th July 2014
10:00-16:00

The first day of this workshop will be spent making one or more collagraph plates, i.e. design, selecting and arranging materials, gluing down and sealing. The finished plates will be inked up and printed on the following day with any additional time used to experiment with more than one method of viscosity printing.

Mary Campbell

Brought up in Coventry, I was excited by the post-war rebuilding of the city and came to Liverpool in 1962 to study architecture and subsequently town planning. After a career break to raise our family, I obtained a PGCE at Edgehill College of Further Education and taught junior children for twelve years. A course I attended on delivering the National Art Curriculum was the inspiration for me to study art, first an Art Foundation Course at Southport College and then the art component of a Joint Honours BA course at Edgehill. There I was fortunate to be taught by Tom Titherington and Peter Oakley, who introduced me to collagraphy and viscosity printmaking.

Since then I have worked from home, mainly as a printmaker. I take my ideas from my immediate family and from the people and places I have encountered while travelling. Sketchbooks filled over years are the main source of my imagery and collagraphs and viscosity printing are my favourite means of expression. Some of my work is far flung since the time when I lived in Sarajevo while my husband worked there after the Bosnian War, but I exhibit mainly at galleries in the north of England, regularly with the Manchester Academy of Fine Art of which I became a member in 2004.
