Woodcut printmaking with Anthony Ratcliffe

This workshop will introduce participants to various methods of woodcut printmaking with the intention of making a two-colour print over the two days.

The artist will present samples of his own work and talk about the use of woodcut prints in book art, showing samples and associated sketchbooks, blocks and materials. There will be a discussion about papers, wood, tools and inks as well as more advanced multicolour printing techniques.

Students are encouraged to bring their own images to work from and all printing materials and papers will be provided.

Anthony still runs workshops for Manchester School of Art (MMU) teaching , BA, MA, PHD and first year foundation students, you do not require any previous experience and the workshop is designed to accommodate established artists and interested novices.

His commissioned prints are in private and corporate collections including Manchester Airport PLC, Parliamentary Art Collection, MMU Special Collections, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the British Council.

Recently the Anthony has exhibited at the Royal Geographic Society, the Mountain Arts Festival-Cumbria, Woolwich Print Fair, Neo International Print Prize Exhibition, New Light, Printfest and Dean Clough. He is also a member of and exhibits regularly with Leeds Fine Artists and Manchester Academy of Fine Art.
